STINGRAY KILLS STEVE IRWIN
A STING RAY?! I used to wrestle these animals in Grand Cayman - and so do about 3000 people a day at Sting Ray City. This Grand Cayman dive attraction started many many years ago. Twenty (20) years...and millions of US$ later, not a single person has been reported hurt. Here are some pictures I took on my last dive there.

Top photo. This graceful animal, about 1.5 meters from wingtip to wingtip, will approach you as soon as you enter the water (really just looking for its squid, the feed that we take with us on the dive). The worst hurt it could give you is a serious hickey if you let it.
Second from top photo. The animal is so playful that it will hug you in a tight embrace. You see my hand pushing the animal away so I can put it on minimum focusing range of 1 foot of my Nikonos 15mm lens.
Two bottom photos. The "barb" of animal has never been reported to hurt anyone after millions of dive encounters!

Strange things happen to strange people in a strange one-in-a-million, almost fiction reality.
It was a loss mankind had that shouldn't have been but it was one that was always there simply waiting to happen.
